Grade 8 Woodwork
D7 - Woodwork 8 Rotation
Week 4
This week we are looking at completing the snacker, due this Friday June 20th. Hopefully you are all managing to get the project together. With regards to the image transfer, I tried out each method this weekend with my daughter and by far got the best result from the poly finish. We also tried an image that was from an ink jet printer and it did not work out. This is definitely the biggest downfall to this idea! I will be posting pictures of my finished product in the next couple of days.
Once your snacker is completed please email or post a picture (on Teams) of the finished project with your name. Just a photo of the project with no people in it!
If you were unable to apply a finish to the snacker that is OK, still please send a photo.
Also if you have still not completed the intro to woodworking assignment please do so by Friday.
Part 2 is here, link below. Good luck and have fun making your snacker!
The first video link is also below. Below are some photos of what some other students have done with their snacker to personalise it. If you don't have wood around, think about other materials that you could add, paint or draw images on the side, lots of options to make it yours. This is your chance to get creative. I have added a video link below as well that gives you some options to transfer printed images onto wood.

Snacker Part 2
Week 3 - This week is exciting week. I have put together project kits for you to build what I call a snacker (snacks in the jar, dispense by spinning the circle). This is the project in its simplest form. I will be talking to you more about how you can modify/add to it. The kits include all the parts needed for the project. The goal this week it to get the kit to you and start building. If you have not done last weeks assignment I would still like to see what you come up with. The first video for the snacker is below. This will be our assignment for the next 2 weeks. Make sure you are logged into your sd22learns account before you try to open the video link.

Week 2 - Please watch the following video. This one of my favourite woodworking you tubers and in this video he talks about what woodworking is and introduces you to many different terms used to describe it. After watching the video I would like you to define woodworking in your own words. I would also like you to go onto the internet and find 3 basic woodworking projects that would be good for a new woodworker to start building their skills with. Describe what each project is and what tools you think you might need to build them. Put all this info into a google slide or power point. I have posted a template here for you to get started.

Also this week I would like you to try and reach 1000 points on the imperial ruler game (link on the home page). The timer should be on and questions should be in 16ths.
Week 1 -Hello All! I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to your woodwork rotation. Clearly this will not be the same experience that you would get if we were in the woodshop but I hope you will still learn some things over the next 5 weeks. I will have some online activities for you as well as I have a project kit for you. This will allow you to build a project at home following my instructions. Before we get to that, I want to start out the course this week with a simple google forms questionnaire. (Click on Hello)
Hello
Another thing that you can work on at anytime is practising reading measurement. On the home page you will find the link to the ruler game. The faster and more accurate you can measure the better woodworker you will be. Try it out!!
Also I have created a Microsoft Team for our class. Please just give me a thumbs up on my first post so that i know you have joined the team. This is where you can ask questions and save files and pics.
Here is the info for your login and password:

D5 - Complete
As we are scheduled to finish up our woodworking course next Friday I would like you to complete the reflection sheet below. I know we only had a short time together and your experience was cut short but I'm still interested to hear what you thought. Once completed, email your video or please scan and email it back to me. If you cannot scan it, please take a clear photo of it and email that.
Woodwork Reflection
If you have any questions regarding finishing up your projects please send me an email and I will try to help you out. If you are unable to finish your project, no worries, I will make some time available when we get back to school for you to come in and complete it if you wish.
The focus for this week is to collect your project from the school, figure out what is left to do on your project and create a list of questions that you might have regarding your project. Click on the project name below to access the instructions. Don't worry if you can't proceed due to lack of tools! I will keep you updated.
Wood Terms:
I have posted a list of woodworking terms that come up in the grade 8 course. Feel free to look at the list and do some google searching for more information. This is for reference only right now, not an assigned task!
